Embroidering A Lamb’s Tongue, 2012

The second realization of this piece (originally performed and filmed in 2010) created for the Bellevue Arts Museum Biennial 2012: High Fiber Diet.

Inspired by the meaningless yet precious object (the "abolished bauble of sonorous uselessness / aboli bibelot d'inanité sonore") described in Mallarmé’s “Ses Purs Ongles”. The piece was executed over the course of four days, during which an average of six hours a day was spent embroidering the top surface of a lamb’s tongue. Over one thousand antique jet glass beads were sewn, eventually transforming and obfuscating the organ. Once finished, the perishable meat had to be cut loose and discarded.
