Of the many things encoded in the act of drawing: there is something a little dirty in the direct, durational, nature of it, in which bits of the self are left embedded among the many marks and traces, laced within the scrim and tangle of hyper-ornate Victorian wallpaper patterns. Those patterns also are encoded, a nod to Charlotte Perkins Gilman's "The Yellow Wallpaper" and the yearning present in the female hysteric’s dry throat to say a thing through any means necessary. (The Egyptians and Greeks believed that the uterus—the hystera—roamed around the female body untethered. They believed it could lodge itself in the throat. Stuck there for varying periods of time, the woman, choked on herself, could not find a voice.)
